Using downloader between comps on same LANTue, 02/02/10 09:43:12 AM PST
So I noticed recently that three of my computers can "see" each other on my home LAN when using the downloader, and very quickly download stuff between each other. In fact, their entries in the connection info list show in gold, not the normal white that others do. However, the other four computers are unable to see those three or each other. The three that can see each other are connected via a wired connection and all Windows machines. The four that can't see anything are 2 Windows machines and 2 Macs, all connected wirelessly.

I've been through my router settings to see if there is something that I can fix so that the others can participate in this internal swapping, and I can't find anything. No additional firewalling is applied to the wireless computers and everything is on the same subnet. Any suggestions as to why the wireless computers won't talk to the others?

Hi Rehka,

For your two Windows machines that are on wireless, do you have the Apple Bonjour service installed? That allows the downloader to talk to one another and toss files around. As for the Macs, they might be able to talk to each other but I don't know if their version of the downloader implemented it. Their patches are different from the PC so they can't share those files.
